- The following sums are appropriated for the Smithsonian Institution; $26,000 for expenses of the system of international exchanges, including salaries of employees and the purchase of necessary books and periodicals; $50,000 for continuing ethnological researches among the American Indians; and $15,000 for maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory.
- Also $22,500 for cases, furniture and fixtures required for the exhibition and increase of the collections from the surveying and exploring expeditions of the Government, including salaries of employees; $10,000 for purchase of specimens to supply deficiencies; $2,000 for purchase of books, pamphlets and periodicals for reference; $15,000 for repairs to buildings, shops, and sheds; $4,400 for rent of workshops and storage quarters; and $500 for postage stamps and foreign postal cards; $7,000 for printing and publishing the contributions from the United States National Herbarium; and $5,000 for the preparation of preliminary plans for an additional fire-proof steel-frame brick-and-terra-cotta building for the United States National Museum (to cost not exceeding $1,500,000).
- The sum of $90,000 is provided for the National Zoological Park for: roads, walks, bridges, water supply, sewerage and drainage, for improving the grounds, erecting and repairing buildings, care, purchase and transportation of animals, including salaries or compensation of all employees, and purchase of books and periodicals, printing and publishing of operations. For the construction of an elephant house, with bathing pools and other accessories, the sum of $10,000 is appropriated; one-half of which sums for the National Zoological Park shall be paid from the revenues of the District of Columbia and the other half from the Treasury of the United States. The sum of $17,000 is appropriated for printing labels and blanks and for the "Bulletin" and "Proceedings" of the National Museum.
