Summary

  • The sum of $356,620 is appropriated for: administrative expenses; international exchanges; continuing ethnological researches among the American Indians and the native of Hawaii and the excavation and preservation of archaeologic remains; maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory; cases, furniture, etc; administration of the National Collection of Fine Arts, including purchase of books of reference and periodicals, uniforms for guards, preparation of manuscripts, drawings, and illustrations; supplying of heating, lighting, electrical, telegraphic, and telephone service, repairs and alterations of buildings, shops, and sheds.
  • The sum of $628,000 is provided for continuing preservation, exhibition, and increase of collections from the surveying and exploring expeditions of the Government, traveling expenses, purchasing and supplying uniforms to guards and elevator conductors, postage stamps and foreign postal cards. The sum of $73,000 is appropriated for all printing and binding, including the report of the American Historical Association. Total, Smithsonian Institution, $1,058,420, of which amount not to exceed $871,000 may be expended for personal services in the District of Columbia.
